The fraternity’s national programs are community outreach mentoring initiatives that have been adopted by the organization’s governing body and mandated for implementation by all of its chapters.

Brother's Keeper

Brother’s Keeper is a service program developed with the mission of advocating and improving the quality of life for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. brothers, their spouses, and widows who are retired, are elders, have disabilities and are ailing. The goal of the Brother’s Keeper Program is to promote dignity and independence among Alpha family and community members who need help in keeping their lives and homes functional.

Go-To-High School, Go-To-College

Established in 1922, this program was created to inspire young males to achieve new academic heights, build leadership skills while promoting personal success, growth, and discipline through exposure to career and educational opportunities guided by mentors and role models. With a concentration on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education, young men receive information and learn strategies that facilitate success.

Project Alpha

This collaborative effort with March of Dimes Birth Defects was developed for young men aged 12 – 15 in 1980. Its goals are to provide education, motivation and skill building in the areas of responsibility, relationships, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Using various workshops and information sessions, the program provides young men with current and accurate information about teen pregnancy. Chapters all across the country work with their local March of Dimes to implement Project Alpha as the program reaches more than 25000 young men each year. Project Alpha week is the second week of October.

A Voteless People, is a Hopeless People

Due to poll taxes, reprisal, and lack of information about the process, many African Americans were prevented from voting in the 1930’s. The National Progam, “A Voteless People is a Hopeless People” (aka VPHP) was therefore initiated as a National Program of Alpha out of this struggle. The slogan remains a battlecry for Alpha voter registration efforts today, in during the 1990’s the focus shifted to include political awareness.

March of Dimes, March For Babies

This collaboration between the March of Dimes and Alpha Phi Alpha was designed to provide young men with current and accurate information about teen pregnancy prevention via workshops and informational sessions conducted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers. In the last 5 years, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers have raised over $1 million for the March of Dimes.
